3. A sustainable phone: A REALITY?? Discover the Phonebloks project.

The calendar for the development of a project:

→ December 2012 :

The project begins when Dave wants to find a solution to reduce electronic waste. Dave wants to create a customizable, repairable, upgradable phone that adapts to everyone.

→ January 2013 :

Dave had the idea to create a modular phone. This project makes his phone sustainable. He creates plans, drawings to make the project real. He wanted to share his idea to make it real. So he published his idea online to show it to businesses. Dave needed people to vote for his project so that his idea could be real.

→ September 2013 :

His idea spread very quickly around the world. The population wanted his project to become real.

→ October 2013 :

He launched his Thunderclap campaign, 979,253 people sent him a message on the internet to support his project. Media around the world is talking about PhoneBloks, its project is becoming very popular.

Dave goes to the United States, to Motorola to carry out his project. Motorola had all the resources to complete the project. Prototypes are created to make his project real. His project is in partnership with Motorola and Google. He will receive money to advance his project.

→ December 2013 :

PhoneBloks create a platform for people to give ideas, comments. The comments improved the project.

→ January 2014 :

A design model was purchased by Boijmans and Moti Museum.

→ April 2014 :

Ara joined the project and moved the project forward very quickly. Ara's team made the prototype work and gave it a final look. They found solutions for mechanical and digital technique.

→ May 2014 :

PhoneBloks got support from Sennheiser. Microphones, audios and telephone accessories will be provided by Sennheiser.

→ July 2014 :

They won an award for social voting at the Designs Of The Year Awards.

→ September 2014 :

In September, the project is 1 year old and has evolved a lot.

There are partners who support the project.

→ October 2014 :

A prototype is created in a room with the help of a computer scientist, a researcher. The prototype started for the first time.

→  February 2015 :

This is a second conference with Ara for develop the project and the new ideas for improved the project. They have developed new features such as the blood glucose meter.

→ July 2015 :

PhoneBloks has chosen to keep the Index Designs To Improve Life prototype for the rest of the project.

→ September 2015 :

They created an open website for developers to submit projects. Developers like ZTE, Xiaomi, Fairphone have proposed concepts.

→ July 2016 :

The Ara project has been updated, the shape of the phone is more cubic and less modular. The test phone for developers is available soon.

→ September 2016 :

The Ara phone project is cancelled by Google. Google cleans up all their products to reorganize projects and corporate structures.
