The notion i am going to talk about is the gun situation in the united states of america.

First of all i would like to give the definition of the second amendment and the NRA:

1)

The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution originally proposed by James Madison protects the right of the people to keep and bear arms and was adopted on December 15, 1791 as part of the Bill of Rights . the 2nd amendment states that « A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, « shall not be infringed »

NRA is an acronym for the National Rifle Association, an organization founded in 1871, that stands for the protection of the Second Amendment which guarantees a citizen's right to keep and bear arms.

To illustrate this notion I have chosen 3 documents, 2 that we have seen in class and my personal document. The first document is “ A Gun Culture” from the book, Arming America : ‘The origins of a national gun culture’ written by Michael BELLESILES ___secondly I have chosen an extract from Michael Moore’s movie “Bowling for Columbine”in 2002 Open a Bank Account, Get a Free Gun. finally for my personal document i have chosen “The new face of the NRA” that is a short comedy sketch from College Humour à popular youtube channel.

With these 3 documents i am going to be responding to the question Does owning a gun in the United States of America make you safe?

The first document, “a gun culture” shows us shows us 2 magazine covers of young boys dressed in army clothes with the title “armed and dangerous” and “the schoolyard killers”. It raises the question on the american culture of guns and the issues of mass shootings. These 2 young boys Drew golden and Mitchell Johnson who were given guns at a very young age for Christmas by Santa Claus . At the age of 11 and 13 they carried out a mass shooting on march 24, 1998 in Arkansas, killing 5 and injuring another 10 mostly children and 1 teacher who died a hero protecting his studentsiggo. Michael Bellesiles asks the question “ How did the united states reach a point where children shoot and kill?”. The author blames the american culture and talks about video games and movies stating that some video games are simulators training these children to shoot and kill without a moment of hesitation.

After reading this document we can see that the author highly disapproves of the gun culture in America and he shows us that children having access to guns does not make the country safer.

Pro gun supporters will argue that we do not need gun control but gun education but that just implies teaching more people how to shoot and kill without hesitation.

The second document i am presenting is the extract from Michael Moore’s movie “Bowling for Columbine” Open a Bank Account, Get a Free Gun.Michael moore is a former NRA member We observé michal moore going in the the North country bank to open an account just so he can get a free gun. The point of this video is to show the reality of living in a country where guns are used as promotion to get more clients for a
