Singapore
Singapore called the Republic of Singapore is a country in South East Asia. The area of this city-state is 724 km and includes 63 islands. Its total population was 6 million and makes it the second highest population in the world among independent states. Singapore is located between Malaysia and Northern Indonesia. After the independence from the British Empire in 1958 and the attachment to Malaysia in 1963 and its new independence in 1965. Singapore has become one of the most developed countries in terms of economy, education and health, without great natural resources. The official languages are English, Mandarin and Malay. The most popular religion in Singapore is Buddhism with 33% of the population followed by Islam with 18% of the population. Singapore is a republican system with a parliamentary system of government presided over by the stateswoman Halimah Yacob.
Singapore is known for many tourist attractions like the Gardens by the bay divided into several gardens. It gives its name to this city-state which means "garden city". In the Merlion Park, there is a large statue with a lion's head and a fish's body. It is called the Singaporean Eiffel Tower. The parties reflect the cultural diversity of Singapore, we celebrate the Chinese New Year, the Buddhist vesak and the Muslim Aid. We also celebrate Christian celebration like Christmas and New Year. With a diverse population, so is the culinary culture. There is a wide variety of culinary styles like Indonesian, English, Indian and Thai. Famous dishes are chicken rice, noodles, curry.
The Commonwealth is an intergovernmental organization composed of 56 member states, almost all of which are former territories of the British Empire. Member states have no obligations to each other. They are united by language, history, culture and values written in the Commonwealth Charter. Singapore is not ruled by the King of England but a republic. However, it follows the conventions of the Westminster system which is a parliamentary system of government founded in the United Kingdom. Since 1959, Singapore is an autonomous state with the Commonwealth. Moreover, it remains an independent state with its own principals but follows common values and duties with this organization.
