I am going to talk about the Idea of Progress

First of all I would like to give a definition of this notion. The Idea of Progress can be defined as an improvement, a development or a change. A progress can be a technical, a scientific or a social advance which contributes to making the world a better place.

In order to illustrate this notion i have chosen to talk about technological progress in for example new technologies to slow down climate change such as hybrid cars, wind turbines, solar panels, biofuel and other new technologies.. And I think this is the best subject to illustrate the notion because moreover it shows the advantages and disadvantages who can have a progress, it shows too the effect he can have on our society.

So what are the advantages and the disadvantages of this progress ? Does it have a positive or a negative effect on our society ? It’s what we will try to answer during this presentation.

In the beginning of the 21st century, the expression « Global warming » began to be pronunce by scientifics because they have discovered the negative effect that the Industrial Period of this last 150 years has on the environment. For this reason, they have begun to search new technologies to find solution to solve this problem. It’s how this last years, lot of invention was made to slow down climate change.

This is one of the positive aspect of this progress. Because these research are made in a noble interest, to save the world and I think it’s one of the first time that mens from almost all the nationalities of the planet are fighting together. The COP21 shows it very well. So we can speak moreover that this new technologies are a scientific progress by these inventions who slow down the climate change, that they contribute to a social progress too. Because it’s a cause allying all the humanity of which no other one had succeeded before.

However this progress has his disadvantages too. It’s allying all the humanity of course, but he divides it too as well. We can observe during these last 10 years a division between scientifics and politicians. Scientifics think about the gravity of the situation and do millions of research to try to solve it and Politicians thinks about the economic part of this inventions. It shows the cupidity of the mens and the problem that our society are encountering today.

In conclusion of this presentation,  about the progress of these green technologies there are advantages to scientific and technological progress but there are also disadvantages such as social progress.

 We can also relate this progress to the notion of places and forms of power. Indeed all these new technologies concerning the benefit of all mankind can’t be used without the economic and political power.
