Introduction

How could we define the notion idea of progress ?

Well, it can be designated as an improvement , a development or a change. It is a technical, scientific or social advance which normally, contributes to making the world a better place.

Progress made in the past definitely modeled the way we live now, and for the best.

Without progress, we would still be in the same mindset as in the middle ages.

Probably not as open to the world as we are now.

But, how has progress allowed us to make our modern-day life better ?

To find an answer to this question, we will illustrate it by giving two examples:

The first one will concern the Industrial Revolution, which began in England in the middle of the 18th century and signed what we could call the entry of our world in a modern society.

Then I will talk about the movie Philadelphia , which was released in 1993 and shows how one man can change the way people think about others.

A conclusion will resume my statements.

II. The Industrial Revolution

The Industrial Revolution was an era of many evolutions. Indeed, many changes occurred. The Industrial Revolution brought about numerous innovations and scientific advancements that benefited society such as the steam engine , invented in the 1760s by James Watt. It changed the way people got around and also influenced the modern car. Without this invention, many things that we use today would not even exist. The industry in itself also changed a lot. Factories that came up during this time changed the way people worked and lived. Many jobs were created and, as the steam engine, it influenced the way we live at the moment. Factories are now the most efficient way to produce in our modern society.

Basically , the Industrial Revolution not only revolutionized the world, it made it a whole lot more efficient.Without the Industrial Revolution, we wouldn't have the quality of life we have today. It was a major turning point in history and in my opinion the most important revolution to ever happen. It changed the old world into the new world and forever changed everyone's lives, both people living now and people who will live in the future.

And, as the information age begins, we need to remember that our world was forever changed by this period in history. And it is still changing today. We shouldn't forget it.

III. Philadelphia

The movie Philadelphia tells the story of Andrew Beckett a bright young lawyer working at a high-profile law
