IDEA OF PROGRESS

I’m going to talk about « Idea of progress ». To begin , I’d like to state a definition of this notion . The  idea of progres is the theory that the different advances in technology, science, and social organization can produce an improvement in the human condition. change and evolution  implies Progress , so We can ask ourselves :How did the social changes of XIX and XX in England and in the United States contribute to the progress on our society? we are going to talk about the social progress with the case of women's right in England and secondly about the black people in america .

I)Social progress : women's ( beginig of the XX at 1918)

In the XIXth Century , the woman was seen as inferior as the man. In fact men had the power over them, they were not treated on a equal footing, for instance when it’s about their wage. As we have studied in class, in the film « sufragett » which take place In England, women fighted for the women's right. The Suffragettes believed it was time they had the same rights as men . In the face of their claiming, the reactions of the government are more and more brutal and oblige them to go underground for a more and more radical fight. Because the peaceful demonstrations gave nothing, those whom we call suffragettes eventually resorted to the violence to be listened. In this fight for the equality, they are ready of risking everything: their work, their house, their children, and even their life.
Finaly , they have won their fight . Women gained the right to vote in 1918. And today almost every country in the world has granted women the right to vote. Now women have the same rights aas men. However that is true that for some country because in other country the right for women is non -existent .
Even if in certain countries it is not the case because these countries were headed by authoritarian regimes .

We can also take the exemple of african americans Which was a big progress in the history of the United States

II) Black people (1948-1971)

One hundred years ago, America was segragated. Black people were considered  inferior to white, but thanks to progress encouraged by soe heroes like Martin Luther King or Rosa Parks, america is now better .

The advance  was made in several stages and I chose to retain 4 important dates which have allowed the equality between the white and black people . Firstly ,in 1955 In Montgomery, Alabama, Rosa Parks  is arrested for breaking a city ordinance by refusing to give up her seat on a public bus to a white man. This defiant act gives initial momentum to the Civil Rights Movement. Secondly in ,1957 Martin Luther King, Jr. and others set up the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, a leading engine of the Civil Rights Movement.. Finally, in 1964 The Civil Rights Act is signed, prohibiting discrimination of all kinds. So , like we have seen through the picture of Mr brainwash : «  Rosa sat so that martin could walk ; martin walked so that obama could run ; obama could run so that our children could fly ». Thanks to the people who fought for the freedom of the black people , americas was more better and peaceful. Nevertheless, differences always persist ..
