Do we need to rethink our consumption habits ?
In 2013 , the world discovered in Bangladesh the collapsing of the Rana Plaza building wich was occupied by workers causing nearly 1000 thousand deaths , showing work conditions of fast fashion industry with poor workers. Maybe you wear currently one of those brand right now , indeed this market , as powerfull as it is , is causing destruction for human rights and is contributing to the climate change and the global warming .This leads to wonder if it necessary to rethink our consumption habits nowadays ?
To me of couse it is , first of all humanity by several markets since the middle of the 19’S century, is led to consume without seeing in the future , i think about car industry , food industry, here the fast fashion industry and many others that are responsible for climate change and will be maybe in the future the criminals that will destroy entirely our planet and that are destroying it. To tackle the issue of fast fashion , it is necesary that people have to change their mind , in other words they have to stop financing these industries such as Shein , Zara, H&M … that are responsible in a way of climate change as i said it because of the water that have to be use to make clothes, the illtraiting of workers and the fact that they are low paid in emergent countries such as eastern Asia , Bangladesh , China… , somehow these brands are enslaving these poor people that don’t have the choice to work , we can call this « modern slavery ». Fortunately , this industry is challenged by a new type of consuming and buying clothes wich is second hand that can be defined by giving a second life to a clothe without throwing it in the ben. Indeed, this new way of paying for clothes could firstly reduce the impact of clothes industry in the environment(climate change) .It is a question of cost as well because people can in shop or in app such as Vinted in France but also Depop for example ,buy clothes with the price that is the most advantagous for them , wich is very dificult to choose for consumers because fast fashion propose little prices too. Furthermore , more ,more and more people are contributing to the rise of the second hand for instance in UK where specialists have seen improvements because between 2016 and 2022 , this industry grew by 149% and according to them , it will be by 67% between 2022 and 2026.
