3.5 Determination of sample size

To find out the required sample size Bourley’s formula for sampling techniques was applied using the esteem population of 1.5 million.

Bourley’s formula is given as:

N = N n = N

1 +Ne2 1 + Ne2

When n = sample size to be determined

N = Total population size = 1.5 million

E = error margin = 0.05

=1500, 000 = 1500,000

1+1500, 000 x 0.05 1+1500, 000 x 0.0025

= 1500,000 = 1500,000

1 + 3750 3751

= 399.9 = 400 customers / respondents
