How to Pick a Topic

This source is useful to analyse certain health impact. Indeed, it gives precise figures about obesity and its link to spending more time on screens and also how devices effect mental health. Indeed,  the author links devices to phycological distress, low self-esteem and depressive symptoms. This document also states how higher screen time results in poorer academic outcomes. All these points are proved by the study on a sample of youth at different school grades and with either a high or low screen time.

In this document the author shows us how access the screens has affected the way children can read social cues. Indeed kids that have been deprived of screens for 5 days can read emotions much better then kids that continued their normal screen exposure. This can be a certain aspect of how the social skills of kids are impacted by the use od devices at home.

This sources demonstrates how screen time hinders language development mostly for children under two. Indeed, the author says that there are some educational programs that help children over two develop their linguistic skills because they can interact with the characters on the tv and some programs promote child participation but that children under two don’t have cognitive skills that are developed enough to fully comprehend. Although, the author still recognizes that one on one interaction with parents is better for learning new words and communicating.

It is stated in this source that screen use before bed reduces the quality of sleep and therefore increases tiredness of children during the day. In addition, screen time reduces the amount of hours kids but mostly teenagers sleep and therefore affect their health. The authors emphasize the fact that sleep plays a major role in both the mental and physical health of children.

The author tells us how higher screen time affects cognitive skills such as learning new information, remembering important things, and solving problems. They also state that reduced physical activity due to time spent on screens contributes to kids having poorer memory and lack of sleep. The current generation of children may also be at higher risk for development of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease in adulthood due to excessive screen use.
