How can we persuade people to use public transport ?

Every day, everywhere in the world millions of people get up and take their car to go to work. These mass displacements have many consequences: in big cities, they cause great traffic congestion that gradually destroys our natural environment. So we can ask how do we persuade people to use public transport?

First of all, I think we have to start from the beginning: educate people, we have to teach them that human activity and the use of cars have irreversible impacts on the planet and that if we do not let us change nothing, the worst will happen in a few centuries. Perhaps, they will become aware of this and they will contribute, only a little bit to this change by taking public transport: they are the future, they are a hope, a tool for change and they must understand it so that people can use it.

Then we have to convince them by offering them irreproachable services. Today, why do people not take transport? probably because they are crowded, it is very hot and they do not smell good. That is why transport must make people want to take them. They should be comfortable, they should not be too saturated and they should also be stylish. It should become a pleasure for people to take public transport. On top of that, they do not have to be too expensive and have to serve cities effectively.

Finally, I think we have to persuade people with taxes and why not a bonus / malus system. If we tax more environmentally harmful fuels, people will feel obliged to use transportation for a price issue. We can also reward city dwellers who use only public transit and sanction those who do not use them.

To my mind, the main thing is education. Only her can convince citizens to use public transport and therefore to fight pollution and save our planet.
