Hello, I'm going to present you the notion locations and forms of power. In politics and social science, power is the ability to influence the behavior of people. In order to live together members of a community accept rules, regulations, laws. This helps to create social cohesion but can also lead to conflicts and tensions. Even when authority seems absolute, there are always counter-powers which question it, aim at limiting its excesses and resist it. I will speak about two poem. How is it possible to fight against the abuse of power?
This document is a poem. The singer is Linton Kwesi Johnson. The song tells the history of a child sonny, that said at her mother, why he is in jail. He said him in the form of poem. He say that in jail because he has killed a policeman. He killed him during a fight because he wanted to protect his little brother Jim who was attacked by the policeman, for no reason. So, he is charged with murder his brother was attacked because he suspect but they were just waiting for the bus. At the end, it is sign “your son sonny”. The language in the poem is Jamaican English. In this poem, we see the abuse of power a policeman which attacked Jim, no reason.
In this second poem, it is John Agard which write “Listen Mr Oxford Don”. He come of the collection “Mangoes and Bullets”. This poem is write in nineteen eighty-five. “Listen Mr Oxford Don” is a protest song conveys a protest message, a message against something or someone. It's a weapon without violence. The narrator is a migrant. He use the language of Caribbean community with for goal, give value to his culture, be recognized. His breath allows him to criticize the English upper class.
To conclude, in this two poem, the characters use the violence but they finish in jail. So the real question is can you to fight against the abuse of power?
