Amish

• First of all, the Amish are an Anabaptist religious community, founded in 1693 in Switzerland by Jakob AMNAN.
Everything about them highlights a way and culture of life very different from ours. Especially when you know that they live in a western country with a way of doing things very close to us French.
Whether it's their clothes, their haircuts, their way of moving, the houses in which they live ... you immediately notice their diversity of life.

• To start with, their appearance is very different from us, they only dress in dark clothes: black, dark blue, dark purple ... and very simply. They all wear the same outfit, without extravagance in order not to encourage discrimination. Thus, there is a dress or a skirt for women and a jacket and pants set for men. Women are also required to wear some sort of hat to cover their hair.
In addition, while men most often have a bowl cut with a fairly long beard, women cannot cut their hair.

• Added to this is their pace of life, which is just as different from us.
Indeed, the Amish people live only on products without electricity. They therefore do not travel by car, but on horseback or in a carriage and cart.
With them it is the same principle, heating with wood and no light except that of natural light. It also excludes all electronic devices. They lead a life that you could say "old-fashioned", cultivate their products themselves and exchange services with each other.
They then live more often than among Amish people even if that does not prevent them from being friends with other people. But they have an Amish school and shops and most often have a whole neighborhood that belongs to them.

• Due to their rhythm of life, the Amish people know little or nothing about competition, discrimination… and tend to respect others and their work. They will be the first to help you if you have any concerns.
They are also the most smiling people.

• In order to be able to live, the Amish therefore each specialized in manual activities and without electricity like us…. This helps them to be able to live with each other since each has a skill that the other may not have

• As they went along, they therefore created businesses where everyone can go now - surely a question of profitability. Most often of course, their shops are in front of their house. At the beginning, no sign indicated their presence and it was very difficult to find them or to recognize their stores, all the buildings are alike. So they ended up putting up signs to indicate what they are doing and selling. But it is still very difficult. Their panels are small and without Amish mapping, we get lost easily.

• There is also the diversity of their products and service, they make everything that they are very gifted for that. Between the candy shops, the carpenters, the masons, the cultivators ... they never stop. And they work fast and well. So much so that it cringes the teeth of "American" businesses who see it as harmful competition. In fact, the Amish work fast, sometimes do not count their hours and above all they are cheaper than what one can know otherwise. But they are American residents all the same.
One of their peculiarities also is the breeding of horses. Since this is their main "vehicle", the choice is less. And there is no house without a horse. They are actually very strong at training. Added to this are cows, goats, sheep, chickens, rabbits ... for their food needs.
