INTERNSHIP 2017

I will start by introducing my internship of second year of diploma in the Social and domestic economy Advisor.

I did my internship in the “ … “ which is an association for mutual aid and support among parents in...

My internship lasted 6 weeks from November 28th to January 20th. My working hours were from 9 am to 6 pm.

I choose this placement because I wanted to work in a place which caters for families, and which provides specific support for families in difficulty or isolated. The majority of users are mainly women and single-parent families. But one of the main components of the establishment is the social mix of the public because the “ … ” is freely open to all those who have an educational responsibility.  

I worked under the supervision of the Director of the association who has an initial training as a family and marriage counsellor. In his absence, the team was supervised by the social worker who is in professionalization contract in the association for two years. I worked with three other trainees :

1 social worker, 2 specialized educators, and also with the volunteers.

I worked with many people but we were all in charge of different tasks. It was therefore essential to coordinate the various activities proposed to families.

During my internship I carried out a project on the prevention of domestic accidents, in terms of electricity, gas use and indoor air quality.

I assisted people in their administrative procedures, particularly to fill out forms in the fields of housing and the family, such as :

• requests housing or,
• applications for social and family benefits.

For that, I had to contact various offices or associations to get official documents.

I also organized cooking workshop, as well as a sewing and well-being workshops.

I attended a professional practices analysis meeting. And I had to sort donations.

This work placement was a very rewarding experience for me in terms of professional positioning.

Indeed, even if this establishment doesn’t carry out actions directly related to the areas of expertise of the Social and domestic economy Counsellor, everyday life is still omnipresent.

So, I managed to put my professional skills into practice by taking initiatives around the needs of the public.

I found this experience worthwhile because it helped me to define my professional project. I would like to become a social mediator because I love community life and I want to contribute to it.
