COSTA RICA
°Costa Rica is a country built with a thin strip of land. The costarians speaks spanish. He is densely populated by more than 4 millions persons. The typic meal is « the casado », with rice, beans, plantain and beaf, pork or chicken.
With the Gap Year in Costa Rica, We want first to improve our spanish. We are also going to this Country for a project of volontary work to save lots of animals. Indeed, with the animal rescue center we want to go protect some felins, birds and reptils.
° Located 3 miles away from the Jaguar Rescue Center, in the heart of the primary forest of the Caribbean is where La Ceiba has been built and maintained. Encar and Sandro, the founders, acquired the 49-hectare property several years ago, and it is now used as the release point for animals to be reintroduced to their natural habitat after their stay at the JRC.
The work at La Ceiba is hard but incredibly rewarding, giving animals another chance at living where they belong, the wild. We will working in an environment that is often very hot, humid and wet with a variety of biting insects (including mosquitoes). The rain forest has a lot of wild animals (including venomous snakes and spiders, biting ants, scorpions etc). Being located in the primary forest there is no Wifi but we provide transportation once a week to the town. It is important that we are aware of this before committing to volunteering at La Ceiba.
°We want to stay in this center 10 months. With a budget of 4000$ per person. On the center, all is inclued except the air flight which cost 1700$ in total, so we are going to have 2300$ for the personnal expensives.
For our budget, we are going to open a common pot. We will work during the holidays , sell cakes and clothes. We also have a plan to adopt 3 animals , These adoptions will cost us 300. We will also make material donations, with a harvest of donation that we will do before leaving. We will not only care for the animals at the JRC, we will also take care of the center, do gardening, clean the cages of the animals. We will leave in March 2019 until January 2020. We’ll also clean the pens then we will pick up the leaves in the jungle to feed the animals We will also have a guiding role, we will have to raise awarness travelers about animal protection.
°During our free time, we will visit the country like The Costa Rica National Theatre is located in Juan Mora Fernández Square and is considered one of the most important buildings in national history and the capital’s main architectural gem, or In the province of Guanacaste, there is another important monument dedicated to the battle of the nations of Central America against foreign invaders, the Hacienda Santa Rosa.
