Introduction:
Today we will present you the Costa Rica:
First the flag, then the history, the geography, volcanoes, the climate, the cities,the animals. We will finish with the 5 best things to do in Costa Rica and finally a quiz.
The Flag:
The flag was officially adopted on November 27, 1906.It was inspired by the flag of France.
The choice of colors and their symbols of the flag of Costa Rica:
The blue for the sky, the white for the peace and wisdom and the red for the blood shed by the separatists and the generosity.
History:
Colonized by the Spanish Christopher Columbus in 1502, during his fourth and final exploration, he gives the country its name of "rich coast".
That is why Costa Rica means "rich coast" in Spanish. Costa Rica means "rich coast" also because they decided to use all the money to education and health system.
Costa Rica has no army since 1948 making Costa Rica one of the few states without army.
Geography:
Costa Rica is situated in central America between Nicaragua to the North and Panama to the South-East and between 2 oceans : Pacific Ocean to the west and Atlantic Ocean to the east. There is a big chain of mountains and volcanoes that passe in the middle of Costa Rica.
Its surface is 51,100 square kilometres.
In Costa Rica the tropical rainforest occupies the largest area. There are other types of forests, such as the tropical tropics, tropical rainforests and cloud forests.
There are also coffee plantations mainly located in the middle of the country. Coffee production is very important to the country’s economy.
Volcano:
116 volcanoes spread over 3 cordilleras. Six of them are active volcanoes: Poás, Arenal, Turrialba, Rincón de la Vieja, Irazú and Miravalles.
Turrialba is currently in eruption. Arenal has been active since 1968.
Irazú is the biggest volcano of Costa Rica, it is 3432 m high.Turrialba is the second biggest volcano of Costa Rica with 3340 m high. And the third biggest volcano in Costa Rica is Barva Volcano with 2906 m high.
Climate:
The climate is tropical year round because the country is close to the equator.
There is two seasons: the dry season to December to April and the rainy season to May to November.
The Caribbean coast knows a humid temperature a good part of the year with 30 degrees of average the day. In the central valley, the climate is more temperate, with an average of 20 ° C.
The Cities:
There are 4.2 million inhabitants in Costa Rica.
The first capital in the Costa Rica in 1553 was Cartago. But in 1823, the capital of Costa Rica became San José.
Now Cartago has 157,794 inhabitants and there are 333 981 inhabitants in San José.
San José is the biggest city Costa Rica.
San Francisco is located not far from San José, this city is not very touristic but remains quite representative of the country
Animals:
