question en Francais : Internet appartient il au gouvernement ?
Does Internet belongs to the government ?
New technologies being are decentralized , it s difficult for government to interfere . The internet
is often said to be a forum for freedom , which implies that government has no place there . Then why our tweets are sometimes
censored ?
Freedom of speech should be guaranteed in the cyberspace but the problem is that, the so called libertarian nature of new technologies
can't really stop government interference . So Internet is a forum for anonymous freedom and at the same time internet is regulated
and supervised .
In the past , authoritarian regimes and dictatorships forbid public assembly to prevent the existence of a public opinion .
Its have not changed with the advent of new technologies , which help even more people to spread and share ideas . For example ,
the Chinese government does not allow Facebook because it fears its organizing power because new technologies allow people to gather
virtually or in the real world , for example the flash mob phenomenon .
In Europe and in others coutries , this power of muster is bolstered by the use of anonymity which makes it harder to track down opponents.
Besides the anonymous group formed in France to combat infringement has freedom of speech and they are getting more and more sucessful
But don't forget that this freedom of expression on the internet also has great dangers . Racism, anti-semitic and pedophile
sites , to name only a few, makes it necessary and very important supervision. Although the new generation claim absolute freedom in
the cyberspace , but it's impossible that the government doesn't use internet . Social networks are used as a political campaign and
prevention , as twitter and facebook . As is often the case , the solution of independence internet is between its two positions, between
freedom and danger , and regulation and supervising .
The State therefore controls internet while leaving some users up groups, freedom of expression is limited but important enough ,
So internet belongs to all of us but is led by the government .
