To Illustrate This Notion, I Have Chosen To Focus On

INTRO

The notion I’m going to deal with « Idea of progress ». To begin with, I’d like to state a definition of progress. Progress is the idea that the world and the society can evolve positively in terms of sciences, technology, modernization, democracy, living condition, etc. However, the idea of progress is still debate between those who consider that it’s beneficial and those for whom it’s harmful. To illustrate this notion, I have chosen to focus on India society. What effect does this progress have on Indian society? Does it have a positive or a negative effect?

First of all we are going to see social progress and then we will see technological progress.

To begin, the Indian society changes and evaluates. She passes from a traditional country to a modern country. For instance in the document, India on the move, that we have studied in class, which is a photo entitled the Champatty beach. This photo shows us many people have gathered together on the bank of a beach who most of them are looking at the skyline of a modern city that stretches out on the over side of the river. This picture presents a dual vision of India. On the one land, we look the city’s skyscrapers and modern buildings highlights. On the other land, the saris that all the women are wearing indicate that tradition have not disappeared.

Now, we are going to talk about technological progress, for example there is a huge difference between the yesterday’s India and today’s India.
