First I would talk about the notion “idea of progress”. According to Platon an idea is the base of everything concrete or an abstract thing in our mind. A progress is a positive evolution in our society that can be a technological social or a health progress for example.   After the WW2, the world was shocked by the horror of this conflict like Auschwitz. All this abomination create a general joy of living and that is the origin of more’s revolution in 60’s society. Our key questions is: Witch symbol of the 60’s society show an upset in general thinking? First we will see a revolution in music culture, after we will talk about the new fashion for the woman and finish with their place in TV.

Before the war, Jazz, Blues and Souls were incontestable popular style of music, but in the 60’s a new style born, “rock’n’roll”, this music is fatter than the old style. Quickly, rock’n’roll become the most popular style in popular music, all young people was fan. 2 groups was the symbols of the expansion of rock’n’roll: The Beatles and the rolling stones. The Beatles was seen as the good guys, they appears to be the best band of all time. Their rivals was the rolling stone , they was considered as the “bad boys” , they are one of the most popular band , even today !  But these 2 groups , and mostly the stones , create the “Sex Drugs and rock n roll attitude”. The rockstar was one of the first people in a world to take drugs , especially during their concert and that made the drugs popular for the first time in history. They also become sex-symbol and that’s made their fan crazy when they arrives ,they scream , run everywhere and some of them fainted ! But rock was more than music , that was an ideology who express a lifestyle where people want to be free. In England , this artistic explosion had a huge impact in England and the “ Swinging London “ born , that’s a period where artist can express themselves.

Everyone wan                                                                                                                                                                                                     ted to be free , in particular women. There place in society will grow extremely quickly.  The fashion revolution is one of the symbol of women emancipation. Before the 60’s , they musn’t show to much their body. But now they can express themselves , and don’t be judge by everyone. For example , the mini-skirt is a dress born in the 60’s , create by Andre Courréges. This cloth is a symbol of emancipation and an assumed sexuality. They also wanted with this cloth to change the classic fashion and the  “good taste” disappear and the 60’s fashion become arrogant , aggressive and sexy.An other example is the monokini and the 2-piece swimsuit it represents the freedom willingness that women felt during this decade.

But all the new fashion didn’t want to be taunt , there is , for exemple the Mondrian Dress. Created by Yyes saint Laurent this dress is iconic of the brand and it’s also a good featuring with the pop art of 60’s society because the art work was realized by Piet Mondrian. But there is many iconic people like Marsha Hunt , Jackie Kennedy or Brigette Bardot. So, the sixties were as I said the bolder decade. The modern fashion permit women to affirm their femininity and to emancipate themselves. It was for them a way to feel free and beautiful.
