Introduction
Hello,First I will present BIG BEN, then another time I'll tell you the story and the visit BIG BEN.
Presentation
Big Ben clock tower is located in London. The clock tower was built between 1843 (eighteen forty – three) and 1859 (eighteen fifty nine). It measures 69 (Sixty nine) meters in height.
Big Ben, is above all the name of the bell of 13.5 tons installed in the clock tower of the Palace of Westminster. This bell was cast April 10, 1858 (Eighteen forty eight) at the Whitechapel Foundry in east London.
History
Following a fire in 1834 (eighteen thirty four) that devastated part of the Parliament building. Following this event, a committee is set up to select the new building design. The winning plan is that of Charles Barry, which provides among other things to integrate a bell tower to the building. In 1859 (eighteen forty nine) we hear the first of the Big Ben bell sound.
The first bell was made in 1856 (eighteen forty six). In order to transport him to the clock tower, it is installed on a cart pulled by 16 horses. It splits a few months after installation, a second bell is then molded to the Whitechapel foundry April 10, 1858 (eighteen forty eight).
