I. Introduction

(a) The movie, Diana, directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel, produced by Robert Bernstein and Douglas Rae and starring Naomi Watts and Naveen Andrews, was published in 2013. This movie is about the last two years of princess Diana’s life, meaning that her, the main character, is going through the divorce of Charles, Prince of Wales. She meets and falls in love with a Pakistani heart surgeon, Hasnat Khan and this will be the main plot of the movie. (b) One important element that is prevalent through out the entire film is the element of the piano. Princess Diana plays the piano every time she feels alone. After every hard scene that Diana has to go through or every difficult decision that she has to make, she usually goes and plays the piano. (c) This paper will analyze how the element of the piano stands as a big symbol for the loneliness of princess Diana through the whole movie. The viewer will see that every time we have a tough scene for the main character, she will, right after, play the piano. This shows that this element is the only way princess Diana feels comfortable and it is how she expresses herself.

II. Body Paragraph 1

(a)In the beginning of the film, Diana goes in a luxurious car where she has a disagreement with Patrick. Right after this scene, it comes a scene where Princess Diana is playing the piano. (b)In the scene, we see Diana all alone and the viewer can see the connection between her and the piano because it seems really intimate. The song that she’s playing is very slow and relaxing to hear. (c)Such scene shows to the viewer that an object, like the piano can be very intimate and it could bring peace to your soul. It doesn’t has to be a piano specifically it could be whatever objet or maybe person that brings that peace to yourself, and it is important to have one so your soul can refresh herself. (d) In this case, the piano shows how thanks to an objet or maybe a person, we feel calm and it makes our soul good because we feel peace.

III. Body Paragraph 2

(a)In the middle of the film, after one of the many arguments that princess Diana has with Hasnat, she goes back to her place and plays the piano once again. She is all by herself playing a slow song. (b)Diana is all alone and the viewer can see, once again, the connection between her and the piano. It is shown also by the size of the room witch is very big and only Diana with the piano in it. (c) Such scene shows the intimacy and peace that Diana feels when she is playing the piano. It refreshes the soul and it helps to get you through everything. (d) This scene shows how if we found either an object or maybe a person, and we get attached to it, we can get through everything with our soul calm.

IV. Body Paragraph 3

Towards the end of the film, after the big breakup between Hasnat and Princess Diana, the viewer will see Diana very mad driving back home. The first thing she does is play the piano, once again. She has tears in her eyes and this time the song is a little bit faster, then, she starts crying very heavily. (b) In this scene, the piano, in a certain way, is her only friend. She only cried this much when she was in the seat of the piano and that’s why the viewer will feel a stronger connection between
