Seats and forms of power

  1. INTRO

I'm going to talk about the notions of seats and forms of power. The power is the ability to exercise a control on somebody but leads generally to conflict between those who have power and those who don't. I choose to illustrate this notion with segregation in America with 2 documents viewed in class,  the movie « Selma », and an article on the struggle for civil rights in Alabama State.

On the first part, we’re going to talk about the freedom of people, and on the second part, we’re going to talk about limits and problems of it.

  1. I

Some communities in some countries haven't a lot of liberty,

like for example the black community in United State of America since time of slavery.

Indeed blacks people as we can see in class with an article on segregation who is a separation laws of liberty between black and white people in some southern states of america in the middle of the twentieth century.

Effectively, liberties of a part of the population has been removed by the government and an other racist part of the population, and this can be qualified as an abuse of power. Because black people don't have the same right as whites like to vote or go in publics places who are reserved to whites.

  1. TRANSITION

And when they braved these racist rules, they are victims of violence by those who practice the power.

This situation is a totalitarian form of power.

  1. II

When a part of the population is privated of power by an other part we can called this a dictature .

And in the movie Selma that we saw in class, blacks in Alabama state can't participate at power by the vote because they were banned by administrations who were controlled by racists.

When blacks exercised their freedom of expression by demonstrating, they were hurt or killed by policemen or citizens like jimmie lee jackson in nineteen sixty five after a pacifist demonstration for black civil rights in Alabama.

The example of United states show the difficulty to found a nation where different culture live in harmony. And when they don't conflict between them for the power. We have many examples of these conflicts between whites and blacks from the same country with segregation in USA or Apharteid in South Africa.

  1. Conclusion

To conclude, I thinks people from different cultures can nowadays live together in harmony thanks to a long and painful fight for equality leading by behaviour persons. Moreover we can tell black people are free in particular in America where the president is black. This is an evidence of the evolution of equality on accession to power .
