The world of imagination
The notion which I’m going to talk about it is “the world of imagination». It’s the mental ability to think, about things which do not exist. To start, there is a part of “world of imagination” is the gothic literature the world gothic in general describes a style of European architecture between the 12th and the 16th centuries. Gothic fiction is characterized by the elements of fear, horror by the supernatural, madness and darkness. Its combines horror, fiction and Romanticism. The main characters are maniacs, psychopath, bandits, killers and also vampires. There are other elements that characterize this type of fiction: mystery, terror, romance, supernatural, sadness, gothic architecture, castles and death …… They are many author’s who contributes to development of this genre precisely because is the genre with such emotional extremes and dark themes so how the author menages to convey the gothic atmosphere? To answer to this question I will use three documents so, we have studies a passage from the novel entitled Wuthering heights written by Emily Bronte and published in England in 1847. It’s a typical gothic novel and her most popular work and considered as a classic of a gothic literature. The story takes place in 1840s in Yorkshire, England .it’s winter and Lockwood the narrator has lost his way on the moor. He has been grudgingly accommodated for the night by Heathcliff the –looking owner of ”Wuthering heights” after a strangest night, Mr. Lockwood asks the house servant, Nelly Dean, to tell him the intriguing story of Wuthering Heights. Combines several ingredients to create gothic novel, like storm signals that is something wrong, unseen and evil is going to happen. And also suspense, where the scene takes place and mystery, the character are between life and death the atmosphere is gloomy….. .This novel has many things that make it an unforgettable novel in the gothic tradition. Then we have another passage from the novel named DRACULA written by Bram Stoker and published in 1897, which about a narrator Jonathan Hanker an English solicitor has traveled from London to Transylvania, to meet count Dracula. The passage presents their first meeting. The author of the novel menages to convey a gothic atmosphere by The complexity of the character , Dracula renewed by modern themes dear to psychoanalysis such as the association of Eros and Thanatos of sexual desire and death or the questioning of the limits (between beast and man, between life and death or between Good and Evil… )
