Everyday people around the world are being judge based on their gender. Throughout the years many stereotypes have been put on women and men.
Gender inequality was and always has been a big dilemma of the world.
Good evening ladies and gentlemen
My name is Maryam and as an international actress I stand here today to speak about an important issue close to my heart : gender inequality.
About two weeks ago, I had the chance to visit a local school in a small village in the south of Nigeria. I particularly noticed that the school population was mainly male. When I asked the honour of the school why the building lacked of female students. I was told that most young girls were not allowed to go to school. Why? Because most people of that village think that enrolling a girl in school is a waste of investment, and that by doing that they are ruining her chances of getting married in the near future.
That ladies and gentlemen is only one example of gender inequality we find in our world.
In India, women have always been less valued than men. They are considered a burden to most Indian families. A girl’s birth in India is even less worshiped than a boy’s birth in the country.
In many places around the world, women are still being less paid than their male colleagues. Even though the pay gap has decreased and was in 2017 at 12 percent.
This discrimination doesn’t only concern women. A lot of men are judged for having what society female jobs. They are pressured to live up to the steriotypes society has on men.
Gender inequality has been here for so long so why hasn’t it been solved?

I took it as a challenge to inform and educate people on the importance of gender equality. To do just that I have started an association which inquires to show the importance of the equality of both genders, because I strongly think that by having an educated society we can give many girls who aren’t aloud to go to school an education and probably even divide the percentage of poverty and hunger of a lot of country in half or erase the pay gap between men and women.
The task won’t be easy and short but at the end of the day it will be worth it.
Please join me in making a difference.
I took it as challenge to convince parents of the village that are reluctant to girl education. Changing their position is vital to society. Educating girls is not only a good investment it is essential because women.
