• How is the Prime Minister chosen? How are the first Ministers of the devolved Parliaments/assemblies chosen?

🡪 After a general election, the sovereign chooses the Prime Minister: in fact she asks the leader of the party with a majority of the votes and therefore a majority of the seats in the House of Commons to become PM and to form the government.

Same for the devolved parliaments.

• How long is the Prime Minister’s term ?

🡪 5 years

• Explain the relationship between the PM and the Queen ?

• PM asks the Queen to dissolve Parliament
• Audience weekly on Tuesday
• The Marquee has the right to be informed and consulted on matters/reform
• Advice
• PM makes recommendations for the award of titles and honor

• Difference between Cabinet & Government??? IMPORTANT

Cabinet : les 15 à 20 personnes les plus importantes pour mener la politique envisagée par le 1er Ministre.  Attention en GB, l’équivalent des ministres français sont les secrétaires d’État. Le cabinet correspond donc au 15 à 20 secrétaires d’États nommés par le PM.

Il existe aussi environ 100 ministres en GB mais ils sont hiérarchiquement inférieur au secrétaire d’État.

Gouvernment : l’ensemble des politiciens liés au PM donc les 15 à 20 secrétaires d’État + la 100taine de ministres.
