Organic pollution
Farmers, individuals and industrialists discharge organic matter (excreta, animal or vegetable household waste for private individuals, livestock waste for livestock, vegetable or animal waste for industries such as paper, tannery or agro-food industries).
Chemical Pollution
Agriculture (crop and livestock) is a major cause of groundwater pollution, and important for surface water.
Individuals, traders and artisans (wastewater managed by the cities) are also responsible for water pollution. The chemicals used (cleaning products, pesticides, paint, etc.) are most often discharged into pipes (depending on the organization of the sewers in the city, they are then either directly discharged into the natural environment or sent to a treatment plant Wastewater).
Industrial activities, another source of pollution, emit metals, hydrocarbons, acids.
Waste discharged into the sea
It is estimated that every second not far from 100 waste end up in the seas and oceans, or 8 million litter of waste dumped into ocean waters every day and nearly 3 billion every year. About 5 million (63%) of discarded items are solid waste, dropped or thrown from boats.
The danger also comes from the sky too, because 200,000 tons of hydrocarbons scattered in the air fall into the ocean with rain.
To this must be added the hundred or so ships wrecked and sinked to the bottom of the sea every year, and of which we never speak. Their cargoes also end up escaping and polluting the marine water.
