First let let me define the notion of places and forms of power. Power it’s the ability or capacity to exercise control or authority over others. It can be a person, a group or a nation having great influence over people. Power can create social cohesion but can also lead to conflicts.

So we may wonder to what extent that the Black lives matter movement have a form of power.

To answer this key question, we will see the website of Black Lives Mater, then we will talk about a document about the Michael Brown’s shooting and finally I will make a conclusion.

First of all we can see in the first document that the Black live Matter is an international activist movement, originating in the African-American community, that campaigns against violence toward black people. They regularly organize demonstration around the deaths of black people in killings by law enforcement officers, and broader issues of racial profiling, police brutality, and racial inequality in the United States criminal justice system. This movement holds a kind of power thanks to the public event and also there are many public figures like the singer John Legend who take position to fight segregation. All of these factors give power at this movement.

On the other hand, we can observe that the Black Live Mater movement don’t impact everyone. As an example we can see the Michael Brown’s shooting who took place in Ferguson, in August 2014. Mike Brown was an 18 year old African-American boy who was shot dead in the street by a policeman, despite he put his hand up to show his innocence. Moreover there is the case of the murder of Trayvon Martin who the killer was acquitted.

To conclude, I think that Black Live Matter movement have power because there are many public figures with a great influence who support this movement. And moreover the demonstrations undertaken across all major cities allow the movement to make itself known.
