The axis we will present you is identity and exchange.
The theme of the document is about the Brexit, which consists in the Britain leaving the European Union. The document we are dealing with is a cartoon and caricature. In fact, the document doesn’t have any name and either cartoonist. The document is taken from the Cartoon movement website.
First, we will describe the document in detail, then we will explain its meaning, and finally who it could be related to the axis and the theme.
- As we said before, the document is a cartoon, we do not have any date, but it could be around 2016-2020.
As we can see on the document, we are viewing into a plane in which people are sitting, the characters are wearing ties. There is a particular detail about the ties, in fact each tie symbolizes the flag of a country in the European Union.
Our intention is focused on the exit door of the plane, in fact there is a man jumping out of the plane by the door while the plane is onboard. The man is wearing a parachute decorated of the Great Britain. Above him, we can read ‘’ BREXIT ‘’ instead of ‘’ EXIT ‘’.
The man is waying ‘’ it’s time to say goodbye ‘’ which means Brexit is about to leave the European Union.
There is a lot of wind coming into the plane which gives the impression of a spectacular event.
Finally, by looking at the picture we can perceive a small door that looks alike the first one, above the door we can read ‘’ GRAXIT ‘’ which refers to the leaving of the Greece that is having difficulties and conflicts with the European Union.
- The gist of the message is to caricature the Brexit and makes easier to understand.
The meaning of the document is simple, it symbolizes the Brexit in a easy way.
We could imagine that the artist who made the cartoon thinks it’s a little bit dangerous because he represents the leaving of the Great Britain by jumping out of a plane, or we could imagine it’s brave to do it and it significates a better future because he has a parachute.
Whatever the message, we could imagine the author suggests it’s a big event and step for the European Union.
Therefore, we could say that the document raises the question of the Brexit and its consequences.
The document relates to the axis Identity and Exchange because the Brexit reunites the word words in a way that they want their own identity as a country and the European Union could represent the exchanges.
By leaving the European Union, the Great Britain decides to stop some exchanges.
To conclude this document illustrates the doubt of the Brexit by the representation of the jump outside the plane that could represent a good and new future or a crazy and bad idea.
