Hello everyone, we're the founders of the "Green Sea" group. Thank you for joining us today to discuss the critical issue of marine pollution and our mission to protect our oceans and the life within them.
As we look out at the vast expanse of the sea, it's easy to forget that beneath the surface lives a fragile ecosystem facing numerous threats. One of the most pressing challenges is marine pollution, particularly in developing countries where financial resources and environmental perception are limited.
Firstly, many developing countries lack the financial resources needed to implement proper waste management systems. Without adequate infrastructure for collection and disposal, waste often ends up in rivers and streams, eventually making its way into the ocean.
But it's not just a matter of resources; there's also a widespread lack of environmental awareness among the population. Many people simply don't understand the consequences of improper waste disposal or the impact it has on marine life and ecosystems.
Furthermore, the absence of strict waste laws exacerbates the problem. Without regulations in place to enforce proper waste disposal practices, pollution continues unabated.
The consequences of marine pollution are devastating, particularly for marine animals. Imagine a sea turtle mistaking a plastic bag for a jellyfish, or a seabird eating plastic pellets, mistaking them for food. These scenarios play out far too often, resulting in illness, injury, and even death for countless marine species.
That's why our "Green Sea" association has been tirelessly working since our establishment in 2018 to address this urgent environmental issue. We've focused our efforts primarily on collaborating with communities in developing countries, particularly across Africa, to implement effective solutions.
One of our most successful initiatives involves the installation of specialized nets in estuaries to capture debris while allowing marine life to pass through safely. These nets have proven incredibly effective, significantly reducing the amount of waste entering the sea in areas where they've been deployed.
But our work doesn't stop there. We've also been instrumental in supporting the construction of waste incineration plants in Ghana and Nigeria, with plans for another in Senegal.
In addition, we recognize the importance of educating the next generation about environmental problem. That's why we've expanded our engagement to schools, conducting interactive sessions to inspire young minds and foster a sense of environmental responsibility.
So far, we've visited more than 30 schools, reaching hundreds of students and sparking curiosity for environmental conservation.
But despite our progress, much work remains to be done. Improving waste collection infrastructure is essential if we're to truly make a lasting impact.
That’s why your support is crucial in sustaining our efforts. you can make donations on our website: www.greenseaassociation.uk.
Together, we can protect our oceans and create a brighter future for all.
In order to see if you understand what we explained, we have some questions:
What are the different issues in developing countries?
What actions are implemented by our association?
How can you support the efforts of the Green Sea association?
Thank you for your attention and support. Ave you any questions?
