This caricature published in 2005 and entitled “dreamland” was drawn by Petar Pismestrovican, an Austrian cartoonist which published in the New York Times, the HERALD Tribune and more than 40 magazines worldwide. It focuses on « Images of America » and represents the most representative symbols of the American culture / history

In the lower part, in the foreground:

  • in the bottom right-hand corner:

there is a legend of the cinema named Marilyn Monroe also known as a sex symbol in the 50s

  • In the bottom left-hand corner:

there is the Statue of Liberty (gift from the French to the Americans) drinking a bottle of Coca Cola, a worldwide well-known and iconic beverage. Sitting with her at a table, Uncle Sam, a common national personification of the US Government is holding an Oscar statuette, the award honours an outstanding achievement in the world of cinema. Between them stands Mickey Mouse the famous emblematic toon character from the Walt Disney company. In the center of the table a hamburger and a carton of French fries /chips, typical fast food items from MC Donald’s.

Right behind them: an Indian (American-native) and Elvis Presley, the king of the 50’s rock and roll music.

In the upper part, in the background:

Mount Rushmore in South Dakota is a national memorial representing the greatest presidents of America who contributed to built the country (George Washington—1st president of the USA, led the colonies to independence; Thomas Jefferson—3rd president, principal author of the Declaration of Independence; Theodore Roosevelt—26th president, Nobel Peace Prize; Abraham Lincoln—16th president, led the country through the American Civil War, ended slavery)

Behind Elvis, there is the Empire State Building, famous skyscraper in NYC symbol of power which was for years the tallest building in the world;

  • on the right, a cowboy named John Wayne, an American film icon is pointing his gun to the sky as a victory or a warning, symbolizing the conquest of the west virgin lands

In the background: the American flag / the Stars and Stripes / the Star-Spangled Banner is taking the whole sky

The author aims at putting a light on the embodiment of the American way of life, the America of plenty, a land of achievements, a land of entertainment, a land that people can dream of , a land of opportunities, a land of the free, the home of the brave with liberty and justice for all
