Is the use of robotic pets a good idea ?

In my opinion, the use of robotic pets is a great solution to solve the loneliness of seniors. Nowadays, a lot of elders are abandonned by their families who place them in nursing homes and rarely visit them, so i believe having a pet might make them happier and less lonely. However a real pet would be too much work for them to take care of, since usually animals requires a lot of effort and time, so I belive having a robotic pet that has all the qualities of a real pet, and doesn't have the disadvantages (such as cleaning their urine and feces, or having a lot of their hairs everywhere) that come with it is a good idea. Moreover, some people are allergic to pets, so it would be a good alternative to have a robotic pet instead.

The social questions that are highlighted by the topic of this article are that no matter how realistic the pets are, they still remain robots and they will not have the same attachement to their owner as a real pet. Also, a problem that is highlighted by this article is the robotization of our everyday life, as technology progress, we are starting to become more and more dependant of it, but to what extent ? If everyting gets remplaced by a robot than what’s the use of humans anymore ? Because at the end of the day, machines will never be able to feel emotions the same way humans or animals do.
