More than just a video game

FACEBOOK defines a new purpose for the RIFT which is far from its initial goal. Currently, only 60000 developers version of the RIFT were sold and it will become public in 2015. FACEBOOK wants to be the first “upgraded” social network which improves relationships between people without the use of computers. Making the RIFT cheaper, a new way of communication, and making it more likely to become a new star product like smartphones or computers. If every FACEBOOK (1.23 billion) user acquired this device, could you imagine how many RIFT FACEBOOK would be sold?

As Mark Zuckerberg (FACEBOOK CEO) describes, the virtual reality could be one of the “platforms of tomorrow”. "Imagine yourself enjoying a game at the forefront, studying in a classroom with students and teachers from around the world, consulting a doctor putting on your glasses at home, organizing a business meeting. The virtual reality market will worth $1.06 billion by 2018 (marketsandmarkets.com) and companies like GOOGLE already developed products like GOOGLE GLASS, a clever device which is, like the RIFT, worn on the head. The competition is high and FACEBOOK has to act quickly. With the RIFT, FACEBOOK now has a very powerful high technological advantage and a lot of crucial information for the digital future. Last November in Los Angeles, the social network organized a big event meeting developers to imagine applications for this kind of connected device which prove the project worth for FACEBOOK.
