Comparatif et superlatif

1. comparatif:

Le comparatif sert à comparer deux objets.

Les mots en une ou deux syllabes :

_Ils prennent « er » à la fin du mot suivi du mot « than ».

 ex: The porsche is faster than a twingo                                        

Les mots ayant plus de deux syllabes :

_Ils n'ont aucune terminaison particulière mais sont précedé par la préposition « more » ou « less » mais elle est tout de même suivi du mot « than ».

Ex: The Porsche is more expensive than a twingo.

Ex: The twingo is less expensive than a Porsche.

Exceptions:

_Les mots finissant par « y » prennent la terminaison « er » quelque soit le nombre de syllabes finissent par «ier ».

Ex: Playing video-games is funnier than go to school.

_Good et Bad se transforme au comparatif par les mot « better » et « less »

     2. Superlatif:

Le superlatif sert a comparer un objet a un ensemble d'objets.

Les mots en une ou deux syllabes:

_Ils prennent la terminaison « est » et sont précedés de la préposition « the » et si le mot s'écrit sous la forme « consonne-voyelle-consonne » alors la deuxième consonne est doublée.

Ex: The whales is the biggest animal in the world.

Les mots en plus de deux syllabes:

_Ils sont précedés par « the most » ou « the least » .

Ex: Eddy Malou is the most intelligent person in the world.

Exceptions:

Les mots finissant par « y » ayant une ou deux syllabes finissent au superlatif par « iest » car le « y » est remplacé par le « i ».

Ex: Eddy Malou is the funniest person in the world.

_Good, Far et Bad se transforme au superlatif par « the best » , the farthest » et « the worst »

4. My bed is  (comfortable +) than my sofa. 
5. My lamp is  (bright -) than the sun 
6. Superlatives : David is  (fit +) 
7. Johny is  (suitable +) to win this programme 
8. We can't stay here,  (good +) solution is to go back. 
9. This song is  (melodious -) of all. 
10. He is unlucky because he is  (bad +). 

Another exercise :

1.A lion is  (big) than a cat. 
2. Oh fine, it was raining yesterday but today the weather is  (good). 
3. I have just a little money, so I'll have the (cheap) menu. 
4. She thinks that Chinese is  (difficult) than English. 
5. Water is  (expensive) than champagne. 
6. It's awful, we have got  (bad) weather in the world. 
7. Your car is old ! it is  (dangerous) than mine. 
8. Jane is 8 and Kim is 10 ; Jane is  (young) than Kim. 
9. Don't be in a hurry, walk  (slowly). 
10. You'd better get up  (early) tomorrow, or you'll be late again. 
11. Speak  (loud), I can't hear you. 
12. What a stupid boy you are ! you are  (intelligent) than a monkey.
