Hello everybody today we are going to speak about the Atlantis. What is “Atlantis” ? It is mysterious island that we don’t even know if it has ever existed, we don’t know where it is potentially situated. Atlantis was probably submerged and is now under the sea. A lot of scientists and geographers tried to find this mysterious island but nobody has ever succeeded. It is like for example the continent mu or the avalon We haven’t found any proofs that this city has ever existed, only some stories from the ancient Greece. There were maybe a really advanced civilization who lived on this island. This is all we know about this mysterious island. so today we are going to tell you a bunch of hypothesis about the Atlantis.

First, I am going to speak about Plato who is the man that wrote the story of Atlantis. Plato was a philosopher of the Ancient Greece. He was born in 428 bc and died in 348 BC. He was a pupil of the very famous Socrates and after his death he became Euclid’s pupil. He made a lot of famous document. Even today, Plato is influencing the philosophy of the current world. Many people consider him as the creator of the philosophy.

Atlantis is a really mysterious legend so it is a big source of inspiration for some writers and producers. Atlantis has inspired some very famous books like 20000 leagues under the sea. there are also some films like “Atlantis, the lost empire from Walt Disney or journey 2, the mysterious island.

Atlantis is a very mysterious place therefore there are many possible locations. There are dozens of potential locations so we are only going to speak about a few of them.

One of the most likely one is that the Atlantis would be situated in the west of the Atlantic Ocean. Plato wrote “The sea of Atlantis” so it would maybe mean that the Atlantis is situated in the Atlantic Ocean. The Ocean in Greek derived from “the sea of Atlas”. In Ancient Greek Ocean and Atlas both refereed to the “Giant Water”. There are of writers who take this assumption in their books. For example: Jules Verne, who wrote 20000 leagues under the sea and Henri Verne who wrote Bob Morane.

Another hypothesis is that the Atlantis would be situated in Gibraltar because there is a big seafloor in the Gibraltar Strait. In addition, there would have been a flood at the same time as Plato told it in his legend.

Some geographers think that the Atlantis is situated near Cyprus. Robert Sarmast did an expedition and discovered big walls under the water. He made a search and found a stele with some religious inscriptions. There searches are actually suspended because of a lake of money.

Another possibility is that Atlantis could be in Antarctic. Given that it is a zone where we have not explored a lot, Atlantis could be situated in Antarctic.
