Jeffrey Preston Jorgensen was born January 12, 1964 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States. Abandoned at birth by his father, he was raised by his mother. Later the little boy is adopted by his father-in-law, Miguel Bezos, a Cuban immigrant living in the United States, and takes the latter's name. A brilliant student, he entered Princeton University from where he graduated in computer science.
Jeff Bezos began his career in a start-up specializing in finance and telecommunications. He was then recruited by Bankers Trust in New York, and became vice-president in 1990. From 1990 to 1994, he was a financial analyst for an American investment fund, D.E Shaw & Co.
In 1994, faced with the growth of online commerce, Jeff Bezos decided to create his online bookstore business, Amazon, and moved to Seattle. In 1995, he launched the Amazon.com site. Over the years, it diversifies its offer and broadens its products to music and cinema, then to all types of products. The company is becoming one of the leaders in online commerce in the world. In 2015, its turnover exceeded 100 billion dollars.
At the same time, Jeff Bezos is investing in numerous start-ups through his holding company Bezos Expeditions. In November 2017, he became the richest man in the world with an estimated fortune of over $ 100 billions.

In 1992 Jeff Bezos met Mackenzie Tuttle, and married in 1993.
In January 2019, after 26 years of marriage, Jeff Bezos and his wife MacKenzie announced their divorce after a long period of separation.
Jeff and his ex-wife MacKenzie are the parents of four children, three sons and a daughter who was adopted in China.

Amazon was born in a Seattle garage in early 1994. Originally named the Cadabra project. Jeff Bezos wanted to create "the largest bookstore in the world". A year later, the start-up unveiled the Amazon.com online site to the public. Quickly, other various products come alongside the abundant range of book references available on the site. In 1997, Amazon, a pioneer of artificial intelligence, made its IPO.

After briefly passing Bill Gates as the richest man on the planet in the summer of 2017, Bezos became in November 2017 the richest man in the world, with an estimated fortune of over one hundred billion dollars. He has been criticized for the internal climate at Amazon, deemed appalling by a New York Times survey in 2015, as well as for his desire to build a monopoly and not pay corporate taxes. An independent study published in 2020 in Forbes magazine (The world's best employers) ranks Amazon as the second best employers in the world. While several American billionaires present the manifesto The Giving Pledge, where they promise to devote the majority of their fortune to charitable causes, he refuses to sign it. Finally, he agrees with his wife to create in 2018 a fund of 2 billion dollars to help the homeless and a network of kindergarten classes for the poorest.
