Chanel was created at the beginning of 1910 by Gabrielle Chanel (1883 Saumur) also known as « Coco Chanel ».

Brand’s history :

Gabrielle Chanel is a milliner, her first point of sale was in boulevard Malesherbes in her rich lover Etienne Balsan.
In 1908, she left Balsan after her meeting with Arthur Capel called « Boy ». They decided to open a first hat shop at boy’s house. Sales are becoming bigger, The apartment becomes too small. At that point Capel decided to fund place for the sale of hats at 21 rue de Cambon in Paris: this is the beginning of “Chanel Modes”.

Chanel developed in 1913. Consequently she opened a new shop, again financed by Capel in Deauville and then Biarritz as a sewing salon in 1915.
In 1919, her lover Capel died, Coco repaid all of her lover’s investments, and she became financially independent and opened 31 Cambon Street.

A free and revolutionary spirit:

Coco Channel will choose to diversify its brand in the 20th’s by turning to perfumery and sewing for a wealthy clientele.

Through her products inspired by men’s clothing, she wishes to enfranchise the image of women with modern, contemporary, practical but always elegant clothing. This is a minimalist, clean style that will represent the brand image.

Coco Chanel took part in the women’s revolution by launching short hair fashion, but also by replacing the binding corset with a simple black dress or a tailor.

The Myth of its creation, a unique sense :

 A completely abstract and purified fragrance in accordance with the brand.

Composed by an overdose of aldehydes (metallic and orange smell) added with a floral bouquet. The rendering has more than 80 ingredients that offer a very soapy and almost mythical side.

The composition upset the codes.

Created in 1986, the flavour water is slightly different in composition than the original, with some ingredients removed and a vanilla additive added.

 In the 2000s, several versions of the original fragrance were proposed by Chanel. The public still appreciates.

- In 2016, Olivier Polge worked on a new version of the fragrance. The fragrance is reinterpreted as a fragrance with a freshness and light appearance. The textured and slightly animal appearance of the original is then voluntarily abandoned.
