SAINT PATRICK DAY
St Patrick’s day is the Irish national day. The celebration is on March the 17.
People began to celebrate this day in America where a lot of irish people had imigrated, but, since 1903 St Patrick’s day is popular in Ireland. The same year, Saint Patrick’s day has been declarated like bank day in Ireland. The first celebration was in Boston in 1737. A lot of irish catholic people had imigrated during the 16th and the 17th centuries to escape at the anglican repression. They had imigrated in America for a big part. For them, celebrating Saint Patrick’s day was the oportunity to honour their origins.
This day is to commemorate Saint Patrick who had a lot of influence in irish religious life and to glorify irish population.
Now people are celebrating during 5 days. It’s a real festival with music, people on parade, fireworks or dances. In Dublin, a big part of the city is green like iconic buildings.
During these days you can eat traditionnal irish meals like irish stew, bacon or coleslaw.
This day is famous for his fun where the drinks are always flowing. It’s the occasion to taste famous irish beers like Guinness. St Pat’s day is also Guinness’ day. Indeed it’s the occasion to visit the famous storehouse.
Saint Patrick’s day is one of the most celebrated festivals in the world. In Canada, America or Australia, it is possible to see parades, fireworks or to listen traditionnall irish music. In fact, during this 5 days, all the cities and all the pubs have traditionnal celt musics with a lot of violon, piano, accordion or harp.
If you want to celebrate Saint Patrick’s day you have to respect the dress code. You must have your green and orange clothes. Also, you have to wear your green cap and some shamrocks.
In France the celebration is less important than in english speaking countries but a lot of people go out, there are some concerts in the town and you can see a lot of opened pubs.
