Macbeth, Shakespeare

What :  Macbeth is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare in 1606. This play also called « Scottish play », took place in medieval Scottland and retraces character in a very romanticized way the story of Macbeth, the main character.

The scene is the shortest but also the most popular work of Shakespeare.

Macbeth is an ambitious general in the king’s army.

One day while returning from a battle, Macbeth and his companion, a man called « Banquo »meet three witches in a forest

One prediets that they would become king. Because of his urge to have an important status in the castle he decides to talk about it to his wife, Lady Macbeth. But she was terribly ruthless so she proposes to kill the king, Ducan, Macbeth accept after a lot of pressure from his wife. Next night, they murdered him and the witches prophecy comes true.

However, he feels guilty ;and paranoied and he starts to become mad.

Quickly he understands that his friends want to take power in his place, so he decides to pay killers and kill his whole family . This man was a tyrant. His terrible plan works. After this event, Macbeth begins to see ghosts and he is consumed with fear. He is totally out of his mind. Finally the army of Duncan’s son, Malcom, comes to kill this tyran because it can’t be him who reign over the kingdom he is an horrible king and totally mad ! After a long fight, Lady Macbeth who suffers from hallucinations too, commits suicides and Malcom takes up the Lead of Macbeth above the soldiers and he shows it to all the army.
