Macbeth

Macbeth is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare in 1606. Shakespeare is the most influential writer in all of English literature, he was born in 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon in England. Shakespeare became the most populer playwright in England.

This play is a mixture of imaginary elements, love and the quest for power. Macbeth, a Shakespeare's famous play, was rewritten in diary but also novel, adapted to film and in many other forms.

The story take place in medieval Scotland. Macbeth, a general in King Duncan's army, and his friend, Banquo, are returning from a successful battle. Then, Macbeth meets tree witches and they said that Macbeth will be "Thane of Glamis," "Thane of Cawdor" and "King hereafter." The witches disappear, and a messenger from the King arrives announcing that Macbeth has been named Thane of Cawdor, the first part of the prophecy. King Duncan announces that he will spend the night at the Macbeths' castle. Alone, Lady Macbeth reads her husband's letter describing the witches revelations. Returning home, Macbeth expresses reservations about murdering the King, but Lady Macbeth convinces him that the deed must be done. The next morning, Macduff, a nobleman, discovers the body of the King. Macbeth is named King, but with the witches prophecy in mind, he arranges for the murders of Banquo and his son, Fleance. Macbeth, living in fear of being dispossessed of his throne, began to assassinate all those that it believes could steal his power. The tragedy show how Macbeth and Lady Macbeth sink into madness, he obsessed with the fear of losing his crown and tormented by remorse for the crimes and she can not forget the blood of mortal wounds of King Duncan. In fact, the massacre push the couple to arrogance, madness, and death.

To study this play very renowned, we may be interesed by many topics like the world of imagination, the quest of power, love... But I choose to study the transformation of Macbeth and his wife, Lady Macbeth.

The prophecy of the witches it is a good news like Lady Macbeth imagined ? What is the importance of Lady Macbeth in the play ?

To begin this work, I will study the transformation in itself and after, the consequences of this cruel transformation.

The first act of the play of Shakespeare begins with the three witches. Macbeth is just the general of the army of the king of Scotland, Duncan, and the three witches said that Macbeth will be "Thane of Glamis", "Thane of Cawdor" and "King hereafter." The first reaction of Macbeth is incomprehension. Moreover, he does not believe the three witches since the king is still alive. Then, Macbeth wrote a letter to his wife to tell him what happened to him. It’s in the scene V of the first act that Lady Macbeth is reading this letter in the Macbeth’s castle. Immediately after reading the letter, we can see that Lady Macbeth is very happy with the prophecy of three witches and she imagines already in the skin of the queen. Lady Macbeth is shown as a woman vicious. When she sees her husband, we can feel his excitement at the idea of being queen and Macbeth being king.
