There are a lot of forms of art like the cinema, painting or sculpturing for example. There are two visions of art. For some people, art should be useful and realistic to change the society, and conversely, there are the others for who art is just a leisure or a way to escape from reality. We will see the example of the cinema.
Among the ones with a useful vision of art, we can name Ken Loach a famous British social director, who directed among others a masterpiece of British social cinema who won the “Palme d’or” at Cannes, named “I Daniel Blake”. For him, art should be realistic, moreover he already said “The best story is a true. The point is to make good cinema to show the truth”. These sentences are a proof that he is in favor of realism. To increase the realism, Ken Loach does not cast famous actors but “normal people”.
At first, realism is the fact to tell a true story or an imaginary story who represent the reality. Then, these stories are usually crude, and they show real problems of the life in modern societies, like violence, racism, poverty or injustice, is that why a lot of people are not in favor of realism, because it reminds, them the horror of the world.
Therefore, for some people art is just a way to spend the time or to de-stress. Usually, people who want to watch a movie, just want to have fun, to dream, to escape from reality or just spend a good moment with their friends and families, and not necessary being shocked by their societies.
For me, the second vision is the best, cause in this world, people need to dream and escape from reality, although the realism and the point of view of Ken Loach are, according to me, more useful and necessary to help our societies to change.
