Hello everybody,

Today I’m here to talk about our electoral college and the reasons why I think it should be cancelled or replaced by a better system. Since a lot of years now, we’ve been able to see how the electoral college works, in good or bad ways. But It looks like there are more bad points than good ones.

First of all, this system was created a long ago so it doesn’t really fit the expectations of the citizenship anymore. It needs to be modernized, with suggestions directly from the American people, from all of you. Everyone should be able to give their opinion and let it be heard, especially during elections.

To show you a very recent exemple in which the real will of the people has not been respected, during the 2016 elections, the democrat candidate won the popular vote with 2 millions more votes than the republican candidate, but still lost after the electoral vote count.

Another big issue, is that the electoral college places all the emphasis on a handful of swing states. It means that the president can campaign toward the whims of a small group of swing voters in key states and may neglect small states. But sometimes, in close elections, those smalls states can change everything.

My last argument will be that it’s almost impossible for a third-party candidate to win the race. The electoral college makes you understand that by voting for a third-party, your vote would not matter. That’s why the majority prefers to vote for one of the two main parties.

I’ve done all this speech to let you that we need to stop this, that we need to abolish this system to stop this endless debate.
