Chandigarh the beautiful city

CHANDIGARH was the first planned city after independence from the British rule in 1947 and she is the vision and the dream city of India's first Prime Minister, Sh. Jawahar Lal Nehru combined with the path breaking planning concepts of the internationally renowned architect Le Corbusier it is known as the innvoator of one of the best experiments in urban planning and modern architecture in the twentieth century, so they have together helped create one of the most livable cities of India. Whereas at the origin it’s the  American architects Albert Mayer and Mathew Novicki were the first architects to be appointed for the project but  Novicki is died  in 1950 The city located at the foothills of Shivaliks that is a part of the Himalayas mountain range and the Ganges plains ,  It is the capital city of the states of Punjab and Haryana.  It houses a population of 1,054,600 inhabitants (2001) and is one of the richest cities of the nationChandigarh became symbolic of the newly independent Indian. The foundation stone of the city was laid in 1952. The beautiful city as it is nickamed  covers an area of approximately 114 km² and is situated at a height of 365 meters above the sea level.  Throughout the presentation me and kilian will show Why chandigarh is the symbol of the ideal city in india and it is nicknamed the beautiful city.

The city, when conceived, symbolized a new way of community living in modern India for a generation  Today,six decades after its inception thanks to the farsigh tedness of the plannersand careful nurturing by its caretakers,the city has maintained the integrity of its concepts despite the geo –political upheavals and the internal and external pressures .  the city was planned has ensured the preservation of it’s heritage which lies in it’s unique architectural character, urban design, planning principles and  natural environs,precincts and zones. The unique legacy of the City Beautiful ought to be preserved and maintainedagainstall odds and challenges..
