The notion of: “Space and exchanges”

Today I’m going to talk about the notion “Space and exchanges”.  The different spaces of the world are nowadays more and more connected to each of the world. An exchange is a general movement. The exchanges can appear on many forms: people, trade, information.

Do global cities really have influence over the world?

In the first part, we will see the good impact over the world, secondly we will see this impact isn’t always good.

Actually, at first sight:

-It obviously has an impact on the world.

-The different exchanges have allowed globalization in different criteria: Business activity, human capital, information exchange, cultural experience, political engagement.

-“The Global city is one that tangibly influences global affairs in terms of politics, culture and various socio-economic means.” Saskia SASSEN

-Thanks to globalization, the Singaporean have set conditions to permit the success of Singapore and this success was possible because the government have set standards.

-The exchange of cultures, enter the different spaces of the world, allows global cities for example: New-York, London, Tokyo or Paris…

-The “megacities” inspired the world, one could also look at the many programs in operation in OECD (Organization for economic Co-operation and development). It an international economic organization of 34 countries, founded in 1961 to stimulation economic progress and world trade. OECD global organization that aims to improve the conditions.

Yet, in secondly part:

-This impact isn’t always positive.  The consequences of globalization and “megacities” have negative effect as the pollution. For example: London many people have been leaving inner London to go to outer boroughs because of pollution. But also because people prefer to stay in inner London because of job opportunists and better living condition.

-9.500 (nine thousand five hundred) people die each year in London because of diesel small particulates which cause lungs cancer.

-Singapore has no natural resources and it has become successful thanks to: the world and the intelligence of the Singaporeans.

To conclude:

I can say global cities really have influence over the world. We can consider that the globalization have a massive role in terms of exchange. Nowadays, the working condition evolve. The megacities permit develop the little cities. But the impact of megacities isn’t always positive.
