I- We are going to focus on W. Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet and its film adaptation directed by B. Luhrmann. More precisely in the last scene, the one where Romeo and Juliet die . We will look for the meaning of the work that the director wanted to highlight, in order to explain to what extent this quotation can be true: "Any cinematic adaptation necessarily implies modifications. Although, these changes are never neutral, they imply a change in the meaning of the work as B. luhrmann, the director chose to emphasize the intimate of the characters. In spite of the director's freedom, he has modified and deleted the presence of the original players. Indeed, the character of Paris is suppressed by the brawl between him and Romeo is also suppressed. Moreover Balthazar, Romeo's valet does not enter the place where Juliet is, contrary to the book, as well as Brother Laurence. In contrast to the part, there have been changes to the frame. In the original version the last scene takes place in a cemetery, there we have to deal with a church. We will then note that the city where the act takes place is not the same: Verona for the original version and Venice, a district of Los Angeles for the adaptation. We are witnessing a modernization of the framework in which the church is set in opposition to the city.
