Dreams are not necessary, they are essential. There are two kinds : small unconscious dreams and big fully awake life-changing ones.

The small ones are, to Sigmund Freud known as the father of psychoanalysis, "the royal road to the unconscious", and they can show what the unconscious mind wants.

The big ones are what drive people to achieve new things. They are motivating and inspiring. Although dreams give us a purpose, they don't replace work. It's not enough to dream and think about it, you need to work to achieve it otherwise it will remain a desire. Of course, sometimes you will failed but keep moving after it is the most important, failure is a part of the success. When you believe in your dreams you have the motivation to deal with the life's challenges.

The 92 years old Nobel peace prize Shimon Peres said : "The bigger your dreams the better you will be". It means that dream helps us to rise higher, to work harder. Consequently, to achieve more things, that's why a dream can be life-changing.

Without dreams, there will be no goal to reach and you will lose interest and hope in life. However, everyone in the world has dreams even the most successful people, in fact that's why they had the strength, the motivation and the determination to reach their goals.  

To conclude, a dream can change a life but can also change millions of lives, of course I am thinking of Martin Luther King's speech "I have a Dream" which was a defining moment in American history.
