What makes a good engineer
Before describing what defines a good engineer it is first necessary to define what an engineer is: “Person who has received a scientific and technical training making him fit to direct certain works, to participate in the applications of science.”
To sum up, an engineer is a technician with more responsibilities able to make a team work towards a common goal.
In this definition it is clear that it is essential to have good managerial and social skills, technology alone is no longer enough. So it's the difference between a technician who solves a problem and an engineer who deals with problems that have not yet appeared.
The difference between an engineer and a good engineer, in my opinion, is mainly due to the laziness. Indeed, a lazy engineer is going to look for the simplest and quickest solution to implement which does not involve any loss of time or money unnecessarily.
If the solution put in place is not the best, his role is to improve it until the optimal solution.
A good engineer also has for main role to adapt his solution to the situation and to the users in order to have an ergonomic and easy solution of use.
