Notion “Spaces and Exchanges”
What does people to leave their country to go and live in another?
The notion, I am going to deal with is “spaces and exchanges” First I will give a definition of the words spaces and exchanges. Exchange is an act of goring and receiving something else in return. It can also be seen as a continuous movement or circulation. The notion “Spaces and exchanges” deals with the geographical and symbolic areas that all societies. Our world is built on the exploration and the conquest of new spaces. The different cultural, economic, sociological and languages interactions have shaped and characterised our modern dery world. To illustrate this notion, I have chosen three documents: two pictures and one article written by Alan Zarembo in the newspaper “The new week” with documents, I will answer the following question : “What drive people to leave their country to go and live in another country?”
The fist document is a picture which represents three characters in front of the Statue of Liberty in the foreground. There are one man, one woman and one child Maybe one family. The characters are looking at the Statues of Liberty which is in the background. The young boy stands for hope and charge for this age. It’s a positive image for everybody. It shows progress. The links with the question is when the characters symbolize they feel like going and starting a new life in a new country. They intend to fulfil the America dream.
The second document is about the Pilgrim Fathers, this document is a Picture, who can be devided into two parts. This picture its comes from a website and it was drawn by James Parker. In the Foreground we can see immigrants on the boat. In the background we can notice Indians who are building a fence they rook aggressive. In the middle we can observe a rock on wich it’s written “Playmouth Rock” This means that there are the Pilgrim Fathers and the Americans Indians. We can make a link between the document and the notion because it focuses on a major issue which is the transmission of knowledge, culture made between American and Indian. Moreover it raises the problem of immigration in American nowadays. I like this document because the author exposes his point of view with humor and I think it’s a efficient way to make people understand, especially in this case because it is a touchy subject.
The last document deals with Ana life. This document is an article which was written by Alan Zarembo on the tenth of Septembre 2001. Ana is a Mexican immigrant who entered the States illegally. Sha came to Pueblo and she left her native country six years ago. She wanted to experience the American Dream. She has two children’s. That is to say to lead a better life and to have a better standard of living. She will meet new people and she will start a new life in America with their children’s. She earns more money and Ana found the conditions will be better. However her job was illegal and she left alone her family. It’s why, Ana to decide to leave their country. This article enables to sensitize people and to make people react
As a conclusion, I can assert that three documents shaw people who left their country to go and live in another one to start from scratch. For Ana left a Mexican for a experience the American Dream but a left alone her family.
