MY WORK PLACEMENT

I am at the moment in the final year at the .... High School in ..... I am preparing a diploma in Management Administration. Over this  3-year course, I had to do a  22-week  training period in a professional environment. So I am going to present my internships and I’ll give you  my impressions about these periods. I’ll conclude by saying what I have improved in my practice and what has changed from my first internship to my last one.

        My first 2 periods of internship, which I did in first school year, are 2 periods of 3 weeks ; I worked as a trainee at ...... These 6 weeks of internship allowed me to develop my skills in computing, as for example, I’ve learnt how to draw up invoices and estimates with a commercial management software. I did my third 5-week period of internship in the City hall of ...., when I was in the eleventh grade. This internship in the secretarial department allowed me to improve my skills in many ways, I got better and better for the reception of residents wanting information, and I have managed to become pretty good when dealing with the computer as I sent a lot of e-mails. My fourth internship, which was of 5 weeks also in the eleventh grade, was at La Mission Locale. I was able to develop my sense of responsibility, and I also had the opportunity  to acquire more confidence in me, and to develop more my skills, as for example, writing reports, answering the phone and  using software like Word or Excel. As for my last internship, which lasted for 6 weeks, I did it at the Post office of Dijon. This one allowed me to enhance my knowledge, whether in computing or with people face-to-face or on the telephone.

        To conclude, these internships were very interesting for me, it allowed me to learn and to take the rhythm of the work, to get conscious that this one is completely different from the rhythm at school. That made me realize that we are taught many things at school, and that it is going to allow us to integrate better the professional world, and that it will be useful for us for the future. These internships allowed me to enhance my skills and knowledge and to take advantage of them. It also has given to me an idea of what the world of work is. It helped prepare me to join the world of  work in better conditions after my studies.
