Hello, so today I will deal with the notion myths and heroes. First of all, I would like to give a brief definition of the notion. A myth is a popular story which tries to guide the society toward certain values, or some ideal. Usually, it is composed of unreal fact and action, often led by a Hero. A hero is a courageous person who is ready to sacrifice himself to rescue other people’s. He may accomplish extraordinary deeds. Some heroes are famous for standing up against devil like Batman, Superman, Captain America, ect ,… We called their Superheroes. Whereas, some heroes are real-life persons who were outlaws to rebel against a given order they refused and to challenge it like Rosa parks, Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela.
To what excent can we consider American Dream is still alive today ?
To illustrate this notion , I will focus on the AMERICAN DREAM. The American dream is the ideal by which equality of opportunity is available to any American, allowing the highest aspirations and goals to be achieved.
First his year we saw a document who is a color cartoon entitled « Plymoth Rock » , drawn by jeff Parker, a famous American cartonnist. In this document we can saw the traditional site of disembarkation of William Bradford and the Mayflowr Pilgrim who founded Plymouth Colony in 1620, in fact the pilgrims have left England because they were being persecuted for their religious belief so they wanted to find a place where they could pratice thei religion freely. We see too a wall was being built by native American in order to prevent them for disembarking and enterrig their territory . And this is a criticism of what is happening in the United States, because indeed Trump wants to build a wall between the United States and Mexico to prevent people from coming to the United States. While the Americans are themselves emigrants that when the english arrived the natives welcomed them. It also shows that even today the United States represents hope for some people.
The second document is a audio document who entiled YOUTH PERSPECTIVE ON THE AMERICAN DREAM. This document teaches us at first the general view that we people on the myth of the American dream and in particular on wealth in the United States.
Indeed people think that as soon as you arrive in the United States you find a job directly and that you become rich but this is the reality. In the second part of the document another person speaks and she tells us about her personal experience of the myth of the American dream. indeed she was very disappointed because it is absolutely not what we imagine, when she arrived she was surprised that it was not the paradise she imagined. negative aspect of the American dream.Indeed the American dream is not accessible to all and finally people are better in their country.
The myth of the American dream is maintained by heroes who have succeeded as Barak Obama who embodies very well the American dream.
To conclude the American dream is still present today even if it is not accessible to everyone. There is not only a positive aspect.
