I’m going to talk about “ places and forms of power“. To begin with, I would like to do a definition of power. The notion of power generally implies a basic division between those who have and exercise power and those who have none or little of it. As a consequence it implies and requires that the community members accept laws, rules, regulations and respect specific symbols of power. (When authority seems absolute, there are always counter powers which question it, aim at limiting its excesses and resist it).

So, I suggest we look at a question : Or, how can a weapon have so much impact in the usa? Why can we say that the phenomenon of weapon has upset, affected the lives of Americans?

It will be a matter of seeing that the gun could be a symbol of power and also a symbol of american culture.

I- the gun could be a symbol of power,

First of all, in politics or social science is the ability to influence people's behaviour. In order to live together members of a community accept rules and laws. This helps create social cohesion but can lead to tension and conflict.

The USA is often called a gun nation for several reasons. The main reason is that in most States in America it's legal to own a firearm as a method of self defense as it is written in the Second Amendment to the US Constitution.

We can take the example of a poster studied in class which entitled “ Brady campaign”. In reality, it’s an awareness campaign about gun violence in the USA, to sensitize people to the seriousness of gun violence in the USA. There’s a slogan across the center of the poster written in black against the white background which reads “ God Bless America “ ( which is the American motto). The campaign logo in the bottom left-hand corner aims to preventing gun violence by promoting sensible gun laws in order to save lives.

the campaigners ’goal is to → to denounce gun violence, but also to highlight the seriousness of the problem and to encourage people to stop resorting to using guns.

Furthermore, the power of weapons has a major influence on the behavior of people, make them change into a machine of war or sometimes deadly as is the case of attacks in some schools in the USA. We can refer to this example :

I will talk about the document Bill Clinton's quote.

Columbine refers to Columbine High School in 1999 in Colorado. Two teenagers who were quite socially isolated, and suffering from a lack of popularity started a fatal shooting at their school. They killed in cold blood students and teachers to take their revenge. They had an easy access to weapons at their home. Lot of tragedy about gun use arrived in America. That's why bill clinton want to gather the Americans and said the best there is to see about their nation and human nature. Then we talk about the extract from the film Bowling for Columbine from 2002. In once scene, we can see the director of the movie michael Moore. He going to a a bank that offers an unusual deal. The bank offers a gun for each customer who opens a bank account . So it's means newbank account equals free gun

The customer fills in a form asking questions and if the form is correctly answered the customer can go out right away of the bank with new firearm.

So weapons can be bought along
