In the USA, people can buy a gun when they turn 21. There are some states where it's allowed to go to the supermarket or to take your kids to scholl with a gun. In the USA, there are more guns than inhabitants. In the US constitution, the right to bear a gun is the second admendment. Indeed, people have the right to defend themselves. American citizens think that in countries where people are denied this right, it's nonsense. Most people in the USA have a gun to protect their family. However, some people use their guns to kill people they want to kill.

On the one hand, guns can protect and be a very good deterrent to protect yourself against burglars or If you get mugged. On the other hand, living with a gun is very dangerous. The weapon can be in the wrong hands. Actually, even if the one who holds the gun and pulls the trigger is the one who kills, guns are made to kill.

The Brady Campaign

The document is an awareness campaign which aims at alerting people on the number of people killed every year because of a handgun. Actually, in a country where civilians have the right to have a gun, the number of deaths by handgun is scary. Every year, in USA, 100 000 people got shot and 30 000 of them die.It seems that every signle citizen or civilian is considered a member of the USA army. Civilians are considered like soldiers who should defend themselves, their freedom and their state.

Homer At The Gun Shop

The document is an extract from the Simpsons. Homer goes to a gun shop and wants to buy a gun. The owner of the shop shows him different guns and accessories. This is a parody of the American Society. The salesman is trying to sell him useless objects like a " loudener" or " an extension to shoot down police helicopters". This episode is very realistic. The five-day waiting period is definitely very short. Indeed, they check if the person has psychological problems and if they have a criminal record. But how can they make sure the person is not a potential criminal ? This episode denounces the fact that too many guns are sold in the USA. Also, it denounces the fact that in order to defend yourself, you don't need an automatic riffle...

Bowling For Columbine

The document is a video about a man, Michael Moore who saw and advert in the local newspaper. It said that if he opened an account in a particular bank, he would get a gun for free. Actually, the bank has a delivered licence to sell guns and to do the background check. Micheal Moore had to fill a form and to answer some questions. If you are normally mentally defective, you can get a gun. You could be denied a gun if you were involved into a crime.

Guns Versus Eggs

The document is a poster on which we can see a  boy holding a chocolate kinder egg and a little girl who is holding an assault riffle. It seems that something was banned for children's security and at first, we would say that the weapons are... On the second thought, we realize that we are taling about the kinder egg. Indeed, some kids swallowed the toy inside and choked. The boy seems to be weak unlike the girl who's empowered by the weapon. People with a  gun have the power of life and death over people. They're playing god, choosing wether someone should live or die. Thanks to the gun, she frightens people. As a result, she has people under control...

The Connecticut Massacre

A shooting took place in Connecticut in an elementary school. 27 people were killed. most of them were children. The attacker shot his mother dead. She was a teacher at that school and it was her kindergarten class that was targeted. This incident is the second deadliest school shooting in the country. Two guns were found. The attacker was Ryan Lanza, 24. His father was found dead in their house. A second person was arrested and taken into custody. He was not called a suspect but was being questioned. Mass shootings are recurring things in the USA.
